Dorchester County is the home of the Blackwater Eagleman Triathlon, 1 of 7 qualifiers in North America for athletes to earn a place to compete in the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii. The roads are flat and many not heavily traveled, making it an excellent place for pleasure or competitive bikers. Be prepared for spectacular landscapes and unspoiled shoreline, marshes and farmland. Bring you own bike or rent one near the beautiful Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Oh yes, you will also find that many people you have never met will wave to you from their yards, cars or trucks. A Cycling Trail brochure is available from the Visitor Center at Sailwinds Park.
Blackwater Refuge Loop - A 25-mile loop runs through and around the Refuge. It begins at the Blackwater Visitor Center, leads through the refuge's nature trail and then around the outer perimeter of the refuge.
Vienna Blackwater Loop - A 41-mile loop that begins and ends in the historic small town of Vienna. It begins at the old fire hall's parking lot on Race Street, leads along the water (on Water Street) to Church Street, then left out of town on Market Street.
